How to remove silence from a video automatically

Cutting silence out of a video by hand means scrubbing through the timeline and making dozens of cuts. Pausiq does it automatically: it detects every silent part of your video and removes it in one click, and you can still check and adjust each cut.

The Pausiq editor: a talking video with its pauses cut out, shown as separate clips on the video and audio timeline

Step by step

  1. Go to pausiq.app on your computer or phone. There is nothing to install.
  2. Drop your video into Pausiq, or tap to choose it from your files or photo library.
  3. Press Remove pauses. Pausiq finds the silent parts and cuts them. Move the Cut strength slider to remove more or less.
  4. Watch the preview. If a cut is too tight, restore it or drag the edge of the clip.
  5. Export the edited video as MP4 or MOV. On iPhone, choose Save to Photos.

How Pausiq decides what is silence

Pausiq measures the loudness of your recording and treats the quiet stretches between words as silence. The Threshold setting decides how quiet "silent" is, and Auto picks a sensible value for your recording. Loud parts of the waveform are always protected, and Pausiq leaves a short natural pause so speech never sounds rushed.

Which files work?

Video: MP4 and MOV, including iPhone and Android recordings. Audio: WAV, MP3 and M4A. Files up to 3 hours and 2 GB. You export as MP4 or MOV video, or WAV, MP3 or M4A audio.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Pausiq works in Safari and Chrome on iPhone, iPad and Android, as well as on Mac, Windows and Linux computers. On iPhone you can save the finished video straight to Photos.

Does Pausiq remove background noise?

No. Pausiq finds and removes pauses and silent gaps, so the speech flows without dead air. It does not change the sound itself, so hum, wind or hiss stay as they are. Clean noise in your recording app or microphone settings first if you need to.
